Apple Press Release

Here’s the full press release from Apple:

CUPERTINO, California—April 13, 2010—Apple® today updated the MacBook® Pro line with faster processors, powerful next-generation NVIDIA graphics and even longer battery life. The popular 13-inch MacBook Pro features the new NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics processor for up to 80 percent faster graphics and a groundbreaking 10-hour built-in battery.* The new 15-inch and 17-inch MacBook Pro models feature Intel Core i5 and i7 processors and Apple’s new automatic graphics switching technology that toggles seamlessly between powerful NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M and energy efficient Intel HD Graphics processors.

“The new MacBook Pro is as advanced on the inside as it is stunning on the outside,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “With faster processors, amazing graphics and up to three more hours of battery life, the new MacBook Pro delivers both performance and efficiency.”

All 13-inch MacBook Pro models now include faster Intel Core 2 Duo processors, 4GB RAM, a 10-hour built-in battery and the new NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics processor. With 48 processing cores, the new NVIDIA GeForce 320M is the fastest integrated graphics processor on the market, ideal for graphics intensive applications or high performance games. The 13-inch MacBook Pro is available in two configurations: one with a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and 250GB hard drive priced at $1,199; and one with a 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and 320GB hard drive priced at $1,499.

The new 15-inch and 17-inch MacBook Pro models are up to 50 percent faster than the previous systems.** Using Intel’s state-of-the-art 32 nanometer process, Intel Core i5 and i7 processors integrate the memory controller and Level 3 cache for faster access to system memory. Hyper-Threading technology improves data throughput by creating virtual processing cores, while Turbo Boost optimizes performance between the two processor cores, accelerating the system from 2.66 GHz to 3.06 GHz for intensive dual core tasks, and up to 3.33 GHz for single core tasks.

All 15-inch and 17-inch models include two graphics processors, the new NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M for peak performance and Intel HD Graphics for energy efficient operation. More than twice as fast as the GeForce 320M, the powerful new GeForce GT 330M provides incredibly smooth, crisp on-screen graphics for the most demanding 3D games, creative software and technical applications. Apple’s automatic graphics switching determines which graphics processor an application needs and switches instantly between processors to deliver peak performance and long battery life. Tightly integrated hardware and software allow the new 15-inch and 17-inch MacBook Pro to deliver 8 to 9 hours on a single charge.

The new 15-inch MacBook Pro is available in three models: one with a 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5, NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M and 320GB hard drive at $1,799; one with a 2.53 GHz Intel Core i5, NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M and 500GB hard drive at $1,999; and one with a 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7, NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M and 500GB hard drive at $2,199. The new 17-inch MacBook Pro features a 2.53 GHz Intel Core i5, NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M and 500GB hard drive for $2,299.

The MacBook Pro glass Multi-Touchâ„¢ trackpad now supports inertial scrolling, an intuitive way to scroll through large photo libraries, lengthy documents and long web sites. All MacBook Pros feature bright, LED-backlit wide-angle displays with a broad color gamut. The 17-inch MacBook Pro includes a high resolution 1920 x 1200 display, and the 15-inch MacBook Pro is now available with an optional high resolution 1680 x 1050 display. Customers can also upgrade their MacBook Pro with new 128GB, 256GB and 512GB solid state drives.

As the industry’s greenest notebook lineup, every Mac® notebook achieves EPEAT Gold status and meets Energy Star 5.0 requirements, setting a new standard for environmentally friendly notebook design.*** Each unibody enclosure is made of highly recyclable aluminum and comes standard with energy efficient LED-backlit displays that are mercury-free and made with arsenic-free glass. Mac notebooks contain no brominated flame retardants, are PVC-free and are constructed of recyclable materials.

Apple uses advanced chemistry, intelligent monitoring of the system and battery, and Adaptive Charging technology to create a notebook battery that delivers up to 10 hours of wireless productivity on a single charge and up to 1,000 recharges.**** The built-in battery design results in less waste and depleted batteries can be replaced for $129 or $179, which includes installation and disposal of your old battery in an environmentally responsible manner.

All Macs come with Mac OS® X Snow Leopard®, the world’s most advanced operating system, and iLife®, Apple’s innovative suite of applications for managing photos, making movies and creating and learning to play music. Snow Leopard builds on a decade of OS X innovation and success with hundreds of refinements, new core technologies and out of the box support for Microsoft Exchange. iLife features iPhoto®, to easily organize and manage photos; iMovie® with powerful easy-to-use new features such as Precision Editor, video stabilization and advanced drag and drop; and GarageBand® which introduces a whole new way to help you learn to play piano and guitar.

  1. Wow! Was expecting this but not this soon. Hope it will be available here in the country the soonest. Will surely get one of those MBPs. My MB needs to retire soon. Hope youll keep us posted on the price Khalid. Thank you!

  2. Upto now I was feeling the one I am using is the latest one 😉

  3. what’s really great about the new MB pro is the new graphical performance and off course the 10 hour battery.

HOWEVER,  the price is the disappointment part of the story (as usual)

  4. The price is sooooooo reasonable in the US. it starts at 4500 SAR !!
That’s cheap compared to the price of same performance from other brands. Note that I said “performance” not “specs”. Because with the same specs HP laptops -for example- will be sluggish. You’ll need to double the specs to get the same performance as a MBP.

I only hope that the Saudi market prices will be nearly reasonable 🙁

  5. choices…..choices

which one should i get ?
i like the 13′ model due to it’s battery life  and the wight and the overall size
i hate it due to the old chips in it

i like the 15′ model because of the new chips in it
i hate it because of the price specially in the kingdom when it’s arrives……. it will be a shock (50.000) or something….   LOL

the 17′ model is out of the question cause i don’t need all that power in a laptop

so…… i’ll just have to wait and see

but thanks for the topic , keep up the good work :)

  6. @abdul rahman : I too am having the same dilemma. I can’t decide  between the 13 inch and the 15 inch .

@Khaled A. : this thread has been helpful. but if you could add the prices and some good deals to buy a MBP in Saudi arabia, that would be great 🙂  . Also, what do you think about the whole13 inch vs 15 inch subject ? I’m having that problem and have found lots of other people dealing with the same thing. What would you do ?

[@Steve Jobs : God damn it ! why must you disappoint me ! You couldn’t just stick a damn core i3 chip in the 13 inch ??!!]

  7. IZONE will have the new MACBOOK PRO’s next week actually. I’ve already placed a down payment for one. All my mac buys in a month! hahahahaa. more like OUCH!

  8. Hello. Would you know anything about the student discount ? and does it apply to the middle east ?

  9. But when r they available here…
Which one would be the best buy.. 13″ MacBook, 13″ MacBook Pro or 15″ Macbook Pro
what would be the difference between them price wise here in Saudi Arabia ?
As one of our brother earlier said that a normal notebook like an HP or any other would need double the specs of MacBook to give us the same performance… Is it really worth buying a 13″ MacBook instead of any other notebook like the Sony Vaio or something with the same i5 processors?

  10. Damn! I just got back from itechia and Damn. They don’t have the new ones yet, but the old ones are 1300 riyals more then the new ones are supposed to cost  :(    I was hoping to buy the new low end 13″ at 1200$ [4500 riyal]  but the OLD low end 13″ 1550$ [5800 riyal]

so that’s why i’m gonna ask : should just order it from the online store ?

ps: does the macbook pro come with an arabic keyboerd or not ( saw that the ones in itechia don’t have arabic )

  11. Hello guys this is Ali, Im also interested in buying new Macbook pro 13 with 2.6. I found B&H website from where you can buy online and they will send you directly in saudi arabia. Infact this the only site for us as saudi citizens from where we can buy directly. Please i want to know did anyone purchased from that site before???

  12. Apple
    13.3″ MacBook Pro Notebook Computer
2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 4GB (2x2GB) RAM 500GB 5400rpm Hard Drive SuperDrive nVIDIA GeForce 320M 256MB Graphics 13.3″ Glossy Widescreen LED Backlit Display Secure Digital (SD) Card Slot iSight Webcam, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR 802.11n AirPort Extreme Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, 4.5 lb ((((( its about 1598.95 + 125.60 = 1724.55 $))))) means around 6467 saudi riyals while here the old macbook pro 13 with old processor is still 6999 riyals. :S

  13. Still no update when the new MBPs will be arriving here? Contacted iTechia about the availability when this was announced but still no update from them yet. Excited to buy one soon.

    • looks like their eastern province branch got some in limited quantities

    • I called iTechia yesterday and the man I spoke with told me that it is already availble. I asked the price for the new 13 inch model and he said it is 5,895 SAR. I don’t know if it is really available already because I had two experiences with iTechia calling them if a certain product is available but when I go to the store, the product I wanted to buy is nowhere to found (first the iPad and the next is the iPad case).
I found iTechia’s website as misleading because for example, they posted the new macbook pros on their website for I think about a week already but when I called one of their branches last Thursday, the person I talked to has no idea of these 2010 models. Thus is not good for a buyer like me because before I go buy something, I check out the product first on the store’s website like what I did and saw the new model which made me think that it is already available. It is a good thing that I called the store first last Thursday and learned that they are still selling the old models. What would happened if I did not call them first and just head directly to the store and purchased one since both the old and the new models are smiliar physically? Then I would have bought the old one without my knowledge and I was expecting that what I purchased was the new one.
A peace of advice to every mac lovers, Check the product carefully before buying them.
I hope you will learn something from my post;)

  14. All macbook pro 13″,15″,17″ i5 i7 anti glare are in stock in all itechia stores since 10 days for more info please contact Mohammed al farrah 0590122705 or email info@itechia.com
