Flash has been very annoying recently especially when it’s been overused on websites. From Jakob Nielsen’s blog: “About 99% of the time, the presence of Flash on a website constitutes a usability disease.”
For Safari on the Mac you can use ClickToFlash to disable Adobe Flash until you actually want to use it.
Just go to this page. Download the latest release of ClickToFlash. Close Safari and run the installer ClickToFlash.pkg. Follow the instructions and you should be done.
Now whenever you visit a website in Safari you will notice that Flash is disabled by default. To load it simply click on “Flash”.
Firefox users should install the addon Flashblock and it will behave in a similar way to ClickToFlash.
