Office 2008 For mac

Microsoft has announced the prices for the office 2008 For mac
There will be three different flavors of Office 2008 for the Mac, and they are as follows:

Microsoft Office 2008 for the Mac: This is the core version of the productivity suite which includes Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Entourage. This version includes some Automator workflows, as well as Exchange support in Entourage (you’ll see why I mention this in a moment). You can pick this version up for $399.95 (US) for the full retail version and $239.95 for an upgrade.
Microsoft Office for the Mac Home and Student Edition: This is aimed at the segment of the market that needs to edit documents and such, but isn’t in an Exchange environment. As such the version of Entourage included in Home and Student Edition does not support Exchange, nor do you get Automator workflows with this edition. This edition only comes in the full retail flavor for $149.95.
Microsoft Office for Mac Special Media Edition: This one is interesting. It includes everything in the core suite (including Exchange support) as well as a full version of Microsoft Expression Media for Mac for $499.95 or $299.95 for the upgrade.

It is worth noting, for our international readers, that Office 2008 for Mac will be available in Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, Swedish, and, new in this version Danish, Finnish and Norwegian.

Apple Issues Warning on iPhone Unlocking

Apple has issued a statement today that programs available for the iPhone to SIM unlock it could cause “irreparable damage” to the device.

Apple has discovered that many of the unauthorized iPhone unlocking programs available on the Internet cause irreparable damage to the iPhone’s software, which will likely result in the modified iPhone becoming permanently inoperable when a future Apple-supplied iPhone software update is installed.

Apple plans to release the next iPhone software update later this week which will include the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store.

It appears the statement only refers to SIM Unlocking your iPhone to allow it to use networks outside of AT&T. It would appear that 3rd party hacks (Ringtones, Applications) would not cause the same problems.

One mac rumer forum user indicates it is possible to reverse the SIM Unlock by reflashing the firmware but must be done manually at this time.

Here is A rough guide to relock your iPhone, ahead of the software update.

New Release of Transmit

Transmit’s taken another nice version leap — this time to 3.6! (Well, technically,
3.6.1.)

- So what’s new in transmit 3.6

There are two new features worth talking about in a little more detail!

Amazon S3: For a while now, a dedicated group of Transmit users have been asking for a major new feature: support for Amazon S3 (Simple Storage Service). What’s S3?
Well, imagine having an infinitely-large hard drive that can serve an unlimited
number of users — that’s Amazon S3. It’s a paid service that Amazon provides to
host and serve files at a reasonable price. There’s only one hitch — S3 doesn’t use
a standard protocol to manage the files and folders you want them to serve — so
Transmit couldn’t do it.

Copy Web URL: Transmit 3.6 also adds another long-requested feature: you can now
easily copy full web URLs for remote items. What’s that mean? Well, let’s say you
use FTP to upload an image to your web server, and then you want to send to your
friends the web address where they can see that image in their bowser. Previously,
you’d have to piece together that “http://” URL yourself, by hand.

In Transmit 3.6, you can now specify a Root URL in any Favorite. That’s the root web
address you use to access your files in a web browser. Once you’ve done that, just
upload a file, highlight it, and choose Edit > Copy — bingo, you’ve now got a
workable web address on your clipboard! You can even choose Preview in Browser in
the File menu, or contextual menu, to immediately see a remote item in your web
browser. If you’re a web developer, we think you’ll like this new feature a lot.

you can get the new application from http://www.panic.com/transmit/

We will start posting about mac softwares more.

iPhone in UK? and free iPhone software unlock!

“Mum is no longer the word” said the invitation for a special Apple event in the UK on the 18th of this month. The “Euro iPhone” perhaps?

Now you can unlock the iPhone with free software in 7 steps.

The wait is over. For me that wait was painfully long as I bought an iPhone on launch day only to have to wait until just a few minutes ago to make my first phone call. I passed the time by following the exploits of the guys in #iphone.unlock on undernet who were brave enough to open their iPhone and apply George Hotz’s now infamous hardware hack. But the real juice was in unlocking your iPhone from AT&T without the need to open it. None of that would have happened without the hard work of many different people and groups inlcuding the iPhone Dev Team, the dozens of testers and code wizards in IRC (Daeken, geohot, zappaz, gray, Harros, guest184 etc), and of course the guys at iphonesimfree for discovering the buffer exploit that unlocked the phones to begin with.

I will be trying this method as soon as I get my iPhone. Also a few people in EmiratesMac site have tried it and reported that it works.
